Standards

During this unit, students will be able to:

  • Develop a sketch into a finished drawing
  • Create a finished expressive portrait drawing that demonstrates understanding of volume and proportion
  • Use oil pastels to draw facial features and proportions, layer and blend colors, use tones and warm and cool colors
  • Observe and describe human expressions in line drawings
  • Use art vocabulary in group discussions of specific artwork by responding to works of art by various artists and each other
  • Compare and contrast figurative drawings from different periods
  • Use the internet to research self-portraits by famous artists
